It's Show and Tell Time!

Media Man, Iron Heart

Posted in People by Sandwich on August 14, 2009
I was able to watch a news segment by Oscar Oida Friday morning on GMA7.  He was recording a video of an old man, being carried by several people.  Oida narrates how the old man had a heart attack while attending a dead person’s wake.  The people who witnessed the incident were trying to bring the old man to the hospital.  They were flagging down several taxis, and all those taxis turned them down.  The old man didn’t make it. 😦  The news segment went on, saying that if the old man was just brought to the hospital, he wouldn’t have died.
I was saddened, but also disappointed.  Media people have cars, right?  Would it really be too much to drive the old man to a hospital, in order to save his life?  Was Oida exempted from the words he was speaking?  I can recall him saying that people should have helped the old man.. Was he above the words he just used?  I’ve been told that there are boundaries, between being a journalist and being a superhero.  Is that the reason why he was too busy filming?  Was he choosing between a news story and a life?  Sometimes, we don’t need all the technicalities.  It’s simple, really.  If you can help, HELP.  It’s not a crime to use our hearts, even once in a while.
